No doubt about it — summer of 2014 will go down in the record books as one of the hottest here in Richmond. I grew up in Richmond, and remember those sultry, humid days with dried, crunchy grass. Not many homes had central A/C, so we were at the mercy of the window units and fans. My father retired from the hot, stifling Reynolds Metals plant. He was a machine operator who endured temps up to 115 degrees in the plant. To save on electricity, we would NOT turn on the A/C while he was at work. We, along with the neighborhood kids, would play under sprinklers, in a friend’s above-ground pool, or under a shade tree. We couldn’t wait until we saw my mother closing the windows because that meant my father would be coming home from work, and the window unit was being turned on to cool down the house for him. Those were the good ole’ days! We had endurance back then!! Nowadays, when we walk outside in 95 degrees weather, we want to rush back inside. We are afraid we will pass out or melt or something! Many of our customers (along with myself) start fretting when our A/C is not cooling. It is hard for us to go through a day with it on the blink. That’s one of the reasons why we will move the customers without A/C to the top of the list. Unless you live in an older home, window units and fans are pretty much a thing of the past. I have driven by my home place, and a heat pump now sits next to the house. No more window units taking up the space of a living room or bedroom window. Times have changed, and Chase recognizes that. You can count on us to get to your home within 24-48 hours of your A/C going down.
